They are less harmful to the lungs, but they are still harmful to the heart and vascular system and all of the other things that are harmed by tobacco products.
I got my starter kit 4 days ago and I have not smoked a regular cigarette since then. I have not tried using them in public places. I think they are great. I love the fact there is no tobacco smoke smell. I like that they cost a whole lot less than regular cigarettes. I like not having messy ash trays every where. I like that I can smoke in the car and don’t even have to crack the window.
I don’t think we know for sure yet about how harmful they are or are not. We do know however that tobacco smoke is both harmful to the smoker and those around them. I have smoked a pack a day for 30 years and I am thrilled with the electronic cigarette option.
They do not have tobacco in them. The FDA tests show that they have less harmful chemicals than the patch and gum have. Yes, nicotine is not good for you. Neither is stress, caffeine, fats and laziness. You choose which harmful things you want in your system and what your alternatives might be.
Yes, they CAN be less harmful, but not always. First, Nicotine is not good for you. That being said, if you are already addicted to nicotine they can be a healthy alternative. The problem is where you buy the nicotine liquid aka smoke juice aka e-liquid.
The FDA recently released a study saying some, not all, chinese manufactured brands contain diethylene glycol, a dangerous chemical found in antifreeze. But don’t necessarily believe the media hype. Most brands of e-liquid’s number one ingredient is propylene glycol, also found in antifreeze. What most articles don’t tell you is that Propylene glycol (PG) is also classified by the FDA as safe for human consumption. It is found in skin and beauty products, every day foods and many other things. It breaks down in your body as lactic acid, also harmless. You can’t say a single compound is harmful just because it is found in a harmful combination, like antifreeze.
There are e-liquids manufactured in the US which don’t contain polyethylene glycol, the manufacturers list their ingredients on the websites. Also, there are liquids with the main ingredient being vegetable glycerin, I believe also harmless (vegetable sugar).
Compare all this to the 4000+ toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke I think it’s safe to say they are a much safer alternative. For answers to any and all questions about e-cigs visit
There are customers and suppliers represented to answer all your questions, but the site does not sell anything (aside from ads) The people are friendly, helpful and for the most part well informed.
Or e-mail me if you have any more questions.
They will do less damage than regular cigarettes but make sure you buy a decent brand.
The best alternative is definitely to quit smoking.
We know a lot about tobacco cigarettes: they are not good for your health and contain thousands of toxins.
Electronic cigarettes are a better alternative with many great benefits ranging from cost savings, to odor less, to no butts littering our country! They do not contain tar nor tobacco which is very good.
Try to get to zero nicotine cartridges over time.
I think they’re AWESOME! 36 year smoker – off of tobacco within 2 weeks of gettling on a good e-cig for me and learning all about them from reading forums after I spent $200.00 on a Smoking Everywhere kit that never worked like it did at the kiosk and I really wound up hating it. (Wow – talk about a run-on sentence! LOL)
No, you can’t smoke them anywhere… There are things like common courtesy to consider but, you can use them in lots of places where smoking cigarettes are prohibited and for the most part you will be looked at weird but no one will say anything and it’s always good manners to ask/explain before you start vaping anywhere. That’s just being considerate and responsible.
I agree with Emu 100%
I agree with ehavstad for the most part, tho she probably scared off some ppl with the anti-freeze . Newbies and anti’s most often can’t really comprehend the PG stuff and the FDA stuff in such an abbreviated format. LOL
BTW, the FDA found the diethylene glycol in one of 19 cartridges tested and it was at the lowest measurable quantity. It was found in one of Smoking Everywhere’s cartridges. – the 555 flavor. But you really need to read the whole story and DO NOT believe the media’s negative hype until you check it out for yourself. Get Informed!
I also agree with her that you should check out e-cigarette-forum.com for more information and be an informed consumer.
I agree with Ben – they do less damage to your body and definitely make sure you buy a decent brand.
And as for Owen… I agree with him but I don’t know his forum.
So – if you’re looking to get one, we all recommend it and all recommend learning about it first. Good Luck!
I personally think that electronic cigarettes are great. I own four different brands and have been smoke free for over 2 months because of them.
You can smoke them anywhere and you still get nicotine?
Well yes and no. When you smoke an electronic cigarette you do get the nicotine that your body craves as a smoker. However it really comes down to the owner of the property you are using your electronic cigarette on to decide if you can use it there or not.
I have used my electronic cigarette in several places (Walmart, Glens, etc…) So far I have had a positive experience. I have received a lot of questions but most people where cool with things after I explained to them what it was. However I did get bitched at by the owner of a local corner store for using my electronic cigarette in her store. Even after explaining it to her she still did not want me to use it in her store since it looked like I was smoking.
So see it really comes down to the owner of the place you are using it in. Most will be fine with it after you inform them about it. However you will find some people that just will not be cool with it. The best thing you can do is just respect their wishes even though you are not breaking any laws or anything.
Are they less harmful than regular cigarettes?
Yes they are far less harmful than traditional tobacco cigarettes. Recent studies done by the FDA have found that “some” electronic cigarettes have traces of carcinogens. By traces they mean that there is less than 1% of them found.
Most all electronic cigarette liquid or e-juice contains only 3 ingredients. Nicotine – the stuff smokers are addicted to. Propylene Glycol – Approved by the FDA and used in food products like cake mix and baby food. Flavoring – the same stuff they use in candy.
Some doctors have claimed that electronic cigarettes are only between 1% – 10% as bad as traditional cigarettes.
Traditional cigarettes on the other hand have piles of carcinogens in them and are proven to give you cancer. In fact they are the leading cause of preventable death in the USA.
So in short the answer is simply. Electronic cigarettes ARE BETTER for you than traditional cigarettes.
