Electronic cigarettes?

Question from JB

Are electronic cigarettes any better than regular cigarettes? My husband smokes & I have not been successful at getting him to quit (although he does not smoke in our home or vehicles or around our kids) but I still would like to reduce the risk if possible… Is it any safer to smoke the new electronic cigarettes than to smoke regular ones since the nicotine is not mixed with so many other chemicals and it is vaporized? I know they are a little more expensive (at least I think they are) and he won’t be able to just pick up a pack anywhere – but I was thinking it might be worth me ordering them for him to try if it’s any better. I would think at least it would reduce what vapors might be on him…but maybe it doesn’t? Maybe we just wouldn’t smell it but it would still be there? I just don’t know much about them & don’t know anyone who seems to know either….

Part of what bother me most is we have a baby & it drives me a little crazy that my husband smells like smoke around our little ones….. :(
I tried to select for this to go in health – not sure why I ended up here – sorry!

  1. maybe a little, but it would be a lot better if he didn’t smoke at all.

Yea I also used to be a smoke…well I’ve gone 6 days now. Anyway, I tried the nicorette inhaler-which is doses of pure nicotine. It worked for a while…but it looks like an electronic tampon dispenser lol. I’m in university so it wasnt right for me…I’ve gone cold turkey and am doing alright, but I do reccommend it if you are wanting something for a household setting.
Also I heard ‘the patch’ is good because if you try to smoke with it on, you get physically sick…that would work for me.
    Good luck.

Dear J.B.,Ya know I’m so glad this came up in the category that it did as I am also going to try this and you’re giving me a reason to research. I think w/ my habit it’s more the action of smoking (you know the hand to mouth thing) ,I’ve even considered the Kojak thing w/ the lollipops.I give your husband 2 thumbs up for not smoking around your children!! As you said it still leaves that disgusting smell on him (and me too). I found this great web site that rates costs from free trials-$189.99, reviews, scores, ease of drawl, vapor production, flavor/taste, style/look, customer service ratings, as well as speed of shipment, it will give you 20 diff. kinds to review,I suggest you do the homework but make sure he’s the one that picks the final choice! I think him having the choice will aide in this working for the two of you ,us smokers are just silly like that. My initials are also J.B.

Yes the electric cigarette is better. I have used one for over 2 weeks now and have not picked up a regular cigarette. The best thing is for him to find a flavor he likes. Tobacco flavor does not imitate a tobacco cigarette but it works, if he smokes menthol the transition is a lot easier because the menthol does taste a lot like a menthol cigarette. I converted using Smoke Tip. I love the vanilla and after awhile the tobacco was not bad wither it just tastes like true tobacco smells. I do not cough in the morning no more smoking for over 10 years. I could not even completely quit during both of my pregnancies, I know that is horrible but I just could not. Every time I tried I was an emotional stressed out mess of a woman. It is so hard to quit smoking so so so so hard. But I have now and plan on lowering and lowering the nicotine strength of the e cigarette to get to 0 where it will be even easier to quit the e cigarette.

I vape as they call it in the electronic cigarette world all the time in the car, around the kids and they cannot even smell it. My son did not even notice for 3 days and he is 7 he notices everything! My aunt who was diagnosed with throat cancer was told she had to quit right then I bought her a smoke tip kit and she was happy no withdraw whatsoever. The smoke tip kit is wasy to use and it is cheaper than smoking cigarettes.

If he likes it then you would want to graduate to the ego where he can pick out his own juices and buy refillable cartomizers (easiest way for a beginner) and an adaptor would allow him to still use the cartomizers that come with the smoketip kit. You can also go to vapor4life and buy different flavors of cartomizers for the smoketip cigaratte know as the kr808d-1 model if he decides he does not like the smoke tip cartridges. I in now way work or am affiliated with any companies listed here but it will save you some research time.
You can also go to e-smokersforum (ECF)to get a lot of opinions on e-cigarettes. It has been the best decision I have made. I also have the personal charging case for the smoke tip cigarettes so I can go throughout the day and not worry about a dead battery.

One thing to keep in mind if he gets the smoketip and simply cannot inhale or coughs real bad every time he takes a drag some people have to use VG liquid all smoketips carts are pg based (the chemical that helps make the vapor). My mom has to use VG but Vapor4life also has VG based cartomizers. It seems like information overload at first but it truly is a great product and if he truly wants to give it a chance it will work. I am proof.
I also went to esmokers review at first but be careful sometimes places like that can review based off of best affiliate program. Smoketip is what I choose because of the lifetime battery warranty.

e cigs don’t smell, the only harmful substance is nicotine, so I think this could be a good choice. and in longer perspective, tehy become much cheaper than regular cigarettes.
Before you make an order, read somereviews on the web, there are lot of scam products. and don’t buy the cheapest one, it will be just a waste of money. and don’t order free trials, they will charge your credit card anyway and are more expensive actually, and the quality is crap. Green Smoke would be the best choice, if you want a cheaper one, then Blu is OK also.

    Hi JB!

Electronic cigarettes have so many benefits and are much better than tobacco cigarettes.

    Here are a few benefits:
E-cigarettes do not contain tobacco and tar.
There is no smoke and lingering odor.
They save you money – nicotine refills are cheaper than tobacco cigarettes.
Electronic cigarettes deliver nicotine but would also let your husband experience the physical action of smoking.

  8. Emma says:

    Dear JB,
I can understand your concerns. I’m also a smoker and desperately looking for some alternatives which will help me to quit or at least to reduce the risks.
Undoubtedly, e-cigarettes have arisen my interest as well. I’ve made a research and this is what I got. First is that e-cigarettes don’t produce tar and second-hand smoking harm. Of course, these are the benefits, especially considering that you have kids.
BUT: as I found out, FDA and WHO (World Health Organization doesn’t accept e-cigarettes to be a healthy alternative to the conventional cigarettes. Moreover, in May 2009, the US FDA’s Division of Pharmaceutical Analysis tested the contents of cartridges by two vendors. Dyethylene glycol was detected in one of the eighteen cartridges. In addition, tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs) were detected in all of the cartridges from one brand and two of the other. Further concerns were raised over inconsistent amounts of nicotine delivered when drawing on the device.
